Date: Fri Mar 21 23:16:48 GMT 1997 The modifications contained in the files morechanges.patch and doexpire.patch may be applied to the specified files in the Cleanup Release of CNEWS (patch level G). They are to be applied AFTER the pgpcontrol.patch. The further enhancements provided are: newgroup: --------- If a newgroup command contains a "For your newsgroups file:" line different from the one in your newsgroups file, then your newsgroups file is automatically updated. This can arise, for example, when an existing group becomes moderated, or when an authorised newgrouper needs to correct a typo in an earlier newgroup message. checkgroups: ------------ The checkgroups message is now checked more carefully for format errors (see Son-of-1036 for the allowable format). At present, a checkgroups message with arbitrary text included within it can create spectacular chaos in your newsgroups file. Now, text preceding the genuine newsgroup lines is ignored, in addition to ignoring a signature at the end (neither of these things is sanctioned bu Son-of-1036, but that does not prevent them from arising in practice). As a byproduct of this leniency, Tale's periodic "Checkgroups message (with/without INET groups)" may be piped directly into this script. doexpire: --------- Doexpire now accepts the full range of [expireoptions] and the [controlfile], as allowed for the expire and expireiflow commands. Previously, the '-n' option was not accepted, and it was possible to call expireiflow in such a way that doexpire could not understand its parameters. This feature may now be used, for example, to call expireiflow 5 $NEWSCTL/panic-explist where panic-explist allows some earlier expiry times than your standard explist.
